OVERVIEW

The Goal of this Program is to be a continuation course to the form:  Old Tai Chi Staff

Outside of this, the program is designed to review the earlier Tai Chi forms:  Tai Chi 1, Tai Chi Staff 1 (37 movement), Tai Chi 2, and Tai Chi 3, with a focus on review and then refinement.  Each class will continue work with the Tai Chi 3 form (that was learned in Parts 1-3), along with some of the others, depending on the class and time available after doing the Old Tai Chi Staff work.

Old Tai Chi Staff is a medium-paced Tai Chi form that utilizes a 5-foot long staff.  While Old Tai Chi Staff also uses a staff similar to the Tai Chi Staff form (37 movement) that was previously taught, it is a second-tier Tai Chi Staff form that starts to bridge the gap to more difficult staff weapon forms.  This part of the class will also include additional staff techniques beyond those learned with the Tai Chi Staff form (37 movement), or in PARTS 1-3 to this program.

Our Program will teach both the Old Tai Chi Staff form, as well as reviewing earlier forms, in each class period.

This program will also continue to expand on the staff techniques learned in the PART 3 program.

For the Old Tai Chi Staff component of the class, students will need a 5-foot Tai Chi staff prior to first day of class.

I recommend a Double-Tapered 1.25in White Wax Wood Staff.
Here is one such source, for about $35 (when not on sale):

Most of the class time will be spent actually doing the Tai Chi practice, with periodic breaks to highlight key points or occasionally relevant theory from the Tai Chi classics.

Notes:

  • We will allow a short time after each session for questions and answers.
  •
  • Dependent on enrollment in this course, subsequent courses in Tai Chi, such as continued work with the material in this course, i.e. Old Tai Chi Staff and Tai Chi Form Review (of Tai Chi 1, Tai Chi Staff [37 movement], Tai Chi 2, Tai Chi 3), may be offered, as well as possible other forms.

PREREQUISITE:  ST101: Qigong Meditation Basics 1
This course reviews and continues the course material from Qigong Meditation Basics 1

OVERVIEW

Our goal is renew and refresh the material from Qigong Meditation Basics 1  and then to explore methods to increase one's energy levels in the body.  We explore breathing techniques, methods to ignite internal energy, and continued soft-body movement exercises to help accomplish this.   This allows us to feel more vital and vibrant in our everyday living.

The theme of this class is:   Breathing Techniques and the Three Fires

After reviewing the basic methods of Qigong Meditation Basics 1  for dealing with the primary energy drain of the body (namely lack of grounding and negative emotional states), we look to explore methods to increase our overall energy.  Reviewing the emotional work is essential, so that any energy we add to the system does not end up being wasted by simply amplifying negative emotions.  With this as foundation, we explore ancient Chinese breathing methods combined with internal work to build up the energy of the body.  In so doing, we work with the internal power plants of the body (the Three Fires).   All of this is supported by learning additional soft-body movement exercises (qigong) and a qigong form called Activate the Three Fires.  in the end, we lay the groundwork to Awaken the Healing Light, covered in Qigong Meditation Basics 3

ABOUT QIGONG MEDITATION BASICS 2

We will learn two new fundamental meditations for emotional and spiritual well-being:

  1. Natural Breathing Qi Ball:  natural relaxation method one can do anywhere
  2. Reverse Breathing Qi Ball:  easy meditative way to feed qi to the kidneys

In addition to the meditations, we will learn some supportive physical qigong:

  • Tao Yin Qigong (2nd set):  learn ways to invigorate through basic stretching
  • Ocean Breathing:  simple but powerful soft body movement to increase qi flow
  • Seated Qigong:  simple movements done in a chair to revitalize
  • Deep Earth Pulsing:  soft body movement method to get grounded
  • Breathing Methods:  natural, bellows (energizer), holding the one to activate the three fires, reverse, embryonic
  • Activate the Three Fires Form:  qigong form designed to ignite healing energy   (Part 1 to Three Fires and Six Directions Form)
  • Phoenix:  short qigong practice using the Six Healing Sounds
  • Iron Bridge:  undo compression and tension in the upper back with this practice

Along with the material in this section, we will review some of the meditations and qigong from Qigong Meditation Basics 1.
